Intent What will I learn?
- Explore the therapeutic power of creativity through pyrography, glass engraving, and woodwork. This course blends artistic skill-building with enriching experiences to support your mental health and wellbeing.
- Whether you’re a beginner or simply curious, you’ll learn to create beautiful art while connecting with nature, heritage, and yourself.
You will be able to:
- Recognise different types of Wood Burning, Rotary Engraving and Wood Working tools
- Identify and Select Woods / Glass Objects / Suitable Media to use
- Identify and Choose Different nibs / burrs
You will Develop the following Skills & Techniques:

What other skills or qualifications do I need?
No prerequisites are required as full training and support will be given.
You should be able to follow visual, information and verbal instructions with support or on your own
You will also need to be able to:
- Listen and where possible join in group discussions
- Submit home-study activities on time
- Jot down notes and record main points of the lesson / activities
- Keep your work organised in a file
Your tutor will be available to offer support with any of the above.
You will require basic digital skills such as being able to connect to the internet.
Implementation How will I learn?
Sessions and activities are designed to foster holistic development by engaging learners in creative, historical, environmental, and therapeutic experiences. Encourage self-expression through hands-on artistic techniques like Pyrography, Glass Engraving, and Woodwork. Deepen understanding of local heritage through immersive visits to Speke Hall and Williamson Tunnels. Cultivate respect for nature and sustainability through the Bee Keeping experience. Support emotional regulation and mental clarity through the calming practice of sound baths. Offer inclusive opportunities for learners to explore interests beyond the classroom.
Most courses will have some online learning, so a laptop/tablet and internet access will be needed so you can access suitable images online. You can discuss this with your tutor and we may be able to help. Your full attendance in class and immersive visits will be required to help you to meet your learning targets.
How will I know I am making progress?
You will have a Personal Learning Plan (PLP), which you will update regularly.
Your tutor will also give you regular updates on your progress, both verbally and in writing.

What materials or equipment will I need?
We recommend you bring pens, paper and a folder to keep your work organised.
Pyrography pen sets. glass engraving and wood working tools are provided as well as wood burning media / picture frame materials. However, if you wish to burn onto specific media e.g. breadboards etc…please discuss with your tutor. For Health and Safety reasons we cannot supply any glass media, your tutor will advise you on what glass objects to use and upcycle.
